Republic Engineered Products
to Invest $12.5 million Republic Engineered
Products has recently announced its decision to invest
$12.5 million at its Canton, Ohio operation to install
new, state-of-the-art equipment necessary for producing
bottom-poured ingots. With this investment, Republic expects
to produce up to 200,000 tons of ingot annually for both
domestic and export customers in the Open Die, forging,
Seamless Rolled Ring and Electrode markets. Steel for the
new operation will be produced in 220 ton heats utilizing
the Canton facility’s upgraded electric arc furnace and
new ladle refining and vacuum degassing equipment, which

Groundbreaking for $9 million Health
Science Building - Stark State College has recently
broken ground for a new $ 9 million Health Science Building
to help address the need for providing educated workers
in high-growth, high demand health fields. The 47,500
square foot building will provide additional classrooms
and instructional laboratories for Stark State’s 12 associate
degrees and five one-year certificates in health technology
and biotechnology. The Health Science building will provide
new classrooms and labs for programs in dental hygiene,
emergency fire services, emergency medical services,
health information, message therapy, medical assisting,
medical laboratory, nursing, occupational therapy, physical
therapy and respiratory therapy. New science labs will
also support anatomy and physiology, biology/science
energy and the environment, biotechnology, cell culture,

College and University Enrollment Increasing -
One of the significant assets within Stark County is the
large number of colleges and universities that are located
in within the county as compared to similar-sized cities
and counties in the US. There are a total of seven colleges
and universities including Ashland University (Stark);
Aultman College; Kent State University Stark Campus; Malone
College; Mount Union College; Stark State College and Walsh
University. In reviewing the new Fall ‘07 enrollment figures
for these schools, Stark County has more than 22,000 college
students seeking higher education today which is more than
an six percent increase over Fall ‘06.
