Timken Opens New Small-Bar Steel Rolling
Mill On November 13, The Timken Company
officially opened a new $60 million small-bar steel rolling
mill that has expanded its portfolio of differentiated
steel products. The new mill consists of approximately
76,000 square feet to house expanded rolling, finishing,
and inspection capabilities and is part of Timkens
Harrison Steel Plant in Canton. Approximately 30 new
positions will be added to operate the small-bar mill.
The new mill enables the company to produce steel bars
down to 1 inch in diameter for use in power transmission
and friction management applications. This high performance
steel will meet the needs of a variety of customers in
the bearing, industrial, energy, distribution and automotive
market sectors, including transplant automakers. Timken
collaborated on the design and construction of the mill
with Daido Steel Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese producer
with experience manufacturing special quality small-bar
steel. Nissan, Honda and Toyota are customers of this

Akron-Canton Airport Adding Direct Flight to Washington,
DC The U.S. Department of Transportation
announced last week that it was granting US Airways two
slots to fly from Washington, DCs Ronald Reagan
National Airport to Akron-Canton Airport allowing for
one daily non-stop roundtrip. Congressman Ralph Regula,
who was instrumental in winning the Federal government
approval, said that this new service is big for economic
development. This is what people want when they
locate access to transportation. With the runway
extension (under construction) we will have service to
the west coast in a couple of years. It adds to the attractiveness
of Akron-Canton Airport. Currently, Akron-Canton
has non-stop flights to Atlanta, New York City, Boston,
Chicago, Orlando, Denver, Fort Myers, Detroit, Philadelphia
and Charlotte. Rick McQueen, president and CEO of Akron-Canton
Airport said, This announcement wouldnt have
been possible without the help of our U.S. Congressional
delegation, including U.S. State Senators and four Congressmen,
13 chambers of commerce, the State auditor, more than
30 corporations and 17 community leaders among others. To

North Canton Receives $5 Million Grant for Hoover
Project The Ohio Department of Development
announced that the City of North Canton will receive
a $5 million Job Ready Sites grant to help turn the former
Hoover Company complex into a mixed-use facility. $2
million will go toward widening and improving streets
around the complex and $3 million will be used by the
developer Stuart Lichter to improve the exterior of the
former office and factory building as well as upgrade
the parking lot on the south side, which includes elevated
walkways over Maple Street. The redevelopment plan for
the complex includes manufacturing, distribution, office
and other mixed use (retail and possibly residential).
Mayor David Held thanked the Stark County Commissioners,
North Canton City Council members, City Development Director
Eric Bowles, and the Stark Development Board for their
